5 Things Kenyans Should Not Carry Forward To 2018
2017 has been a rough year and as much as I love us Kenyans, there certain peculiar behaviors that we really don’t need to carry on to 2017.
1. Being used by politicians
Somebody tell me please, why do we allow to be used by someone who at the end of the day doesn’t recognize us?
Worse still, they don’t even know our names. It’s good to support a certain politician but don’t go to the lengths of being used to cause violence.
2. Uniting only in times of disaster
Somebody once said that Kenyans are only united when trouble comes, but wait until the politicians awake. Trouble!
Why don’t we unite at all times like brothers and sisters and not wait for a tragedy to show the world how much love we have for our brothers?
This needs to stop before that clock hits midnight on December 31st.
3. Being tribal goons
You must agree with me that with everything that was going on in Kenya politically, we saw the biggest political divide – a divide based on tribe and I need to tell you for free, that it doesn’t matter whether you are NASA or Jubilee, at the end of the day it’s about you and nobody else.
Don’t allow politicians to make you a tribal goon. We are all Kenyans and brothers and sisters. If things don’t go well, we all suffer.
When our athletes make us proud, I don’t see anyone saying that I am not celebrating that world record because so and so doesn’t belong to my tribe. Let’s learn to be Kenyans and not people divided by politicians.
4. Lying especially on the phone…
I was in a matatu one day heading to Thika in the evening. Now for those who have used Thika road, you know how crazy it is with all that traffic. So this guy’s phone rings and from the conversation he was having with the other person, I could tell that this other human being was waiting for him.
“Ndio nakaribia Ruiru sahi, acha nitakwambia nikifika.”
Now we were just in town along Kirinyaga road in traffic and were nowhere near Ruiru. Imagine you as the other person. You probably have other duties to attend to and because someone cannot be honest, you entire day is ruined with such lie.
I beg you these are things that we need to leave behind. If you are in the habit of lying kindly stop it!
5. Littering
I don’t know if I am the only one who dislikes how Kenyans just think that they can litter anywhere.
The plastic ban was perhaps the best thing to happen to this country that I was in full support. The truth is that, we can’t go blaming county governments for dirty streets yet we are the cause of all that menace.
At least start by doing the right thing by avoiding littering and then we can hold our governors accountable for not collecting garbage.
In as much as we enjoy Kenyans, there are just some behaviors if left behind will open up doors to a great future full of promises. So as you make your New Year resolutions, let some of these things be among them if you are a victim of any.
