LIFESTYLE: I will never marry a graduate

So you won’t marry a campus chic like me, huh? But did you pause to think, even for a moment, that maybe I do not want to be married to a campus dude? You are not the only one with a choice to make, you know? The other day there was outrage from my fellow campus ladies who could understand why a man would not want to marry them. I have good news for you sisters; there are plenty more fish in the sea and that sea is much bigger than UON or Any Other campus out there. No one should make you think you do not have a choice. Just like campus guys do not like some traits in campus babes, the same case applies to the chics. Picture this: a dude strolls into a lecture room, slippers on his feet and a 48-page exercise book rolled into a cylindrical shape sticking out of the back pocket of his pants. In addition, the pants look like they only came into contact with water during last evening’s hailstorm.  The hair is another story altogether because it is neither afro nor d...

5 practical things 'freshers' should do while in campus

photo/COURTESY Every year about 100,000 students join colleges and universities to pursue various courses in Kenya. As freshmen each of them is excited of joining university. Excitement is a wonderful thing . Lots of people, me included, get to the end of campus wondering what we ought to have done in university yet we didn’t. But well, I did really well here, and I deserve it. And so this is a simple guide to every student who dream of a fulfilling academic life in campus. Attend all lectures Despite having all the freedom of making choices whether to attend class or not, ensure u dont miss every class. Make alot of notes. Make revision notes as you go through topics - although you may think it's a lot of work it will help immensely as you will make your notes with the work fresh in your head and then when it comes to exam time you'll be really well prepared and won't have to panic. Get into the habit of going over your notes from the start and st...

IEBC commissioners reject Wafula Chebukati’s changes

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati/COURTESY IEBC   four commissioners reject new positions in a clean-up excercise by Chairman Wafula Chebukati to the commission ahead of 17th October presidential election. Consolata Nkatha, Abdi Guliye, Paul Kurgat and Molu Boya reportedly objected to the   plans,   involving dismissal. They defended CEO Ezra Chiloba and the secretariat. Before making the changes on Tuesday, Chebukati consulted staff members and other election experts. On Monday he tried without success to get the six commissioners to accept his plan. Yesterday Jubilee party rejected the changes and NASA insisted the personnel changes did not go well. “ Given the fact that acts of commission or omission that rendered the elections null and void originated from the IEBC staff , we hereby register our strong objection to the deployment of the above to be in a position to run the process,” Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju said. I AM BEGINNING TO SEE LIGHT AT TUNNEL'S END

PHOTO/COURTESY I have two black dogs. Sometimes I only have one. But once I see him, I know the other one will shortly follow. I don’t always have the black dogs with me. Some days I feel completely weightless, like I’m not carrying a burden. I’m so used to the black dogs being around. I feel guilty not having them. I worry if they are not with me they are with someone else. But when they are there I want them to leave. I wish they would die and never return. But they can not be killed. The black dogs names are depression and anxiety. You never know when they are going to come back to their master. Although I am their master I have no control over them. They are constantly barking. Confusing me. I can’t think with them barking so loudly. The shame of owning these black dogs is real. You feel like they are a sign of weakness. You don’t want anyone knowing you have these black dogs. Especially dogs you can’t control. When you see friends, you put the music on loud,...
